I’ll raise my flag today
To give this day its start,
I’ll unfurl each star and stripe
And fly it from my heart.

For children without fathers
For Mothers left in tears,
For every fallen teardrop
For all these many years…

Angry tears still sting my eyes
And gritted teeth still gnash,
For those that fell this autumn day,
And perished in the ash…

In memory of these fallen,
My flag will proudly wave,
For she still flies in freedom,
She’s still strong and brave.

There’s courage in her gleaming stars
And honor in each stripe,
Her beauty shines from every fold
Resplendent in the light!

And yes, we move ahead…
But we’ll never shut the door-
We still hear each deafening cry
That hastens to a roar.

So Yes! I’ll raise my flag today
To give this day its start,
I’ll unfurl her stars and stripes
And fly her from my heart!
